Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.Matthew 5:7

Usually when I hear this scripture shared, the context of mercy is described as "forgiveness." That if you forgive others you will be forgiven. This is true and supported many times over in scripture, but our day to day use of the word mercy, I feel, limits our understanding of what Jesus was saying.

Real men?

Be a mentor

I see these "Real men do this..." images all the time. A doomed attempt to tell men what it means to be a man via images with bold text shared on social media. Even if they say things that everyone agrees a man "should" do, how is it really helping?

Blessed, a study of Matthew 5

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.Matthew 5:6

Out of the blessings Jesus speaks of in Matthew 5, this is my favorite. It should encourage all who read it, no matter where they are in their walk with Christ.

Even without breaking down the meaning of this verse, it is easy to follow and understand what Jesus was saying. However, the two prominent words are “hunger” and “thirst.” Understanding these two words shows the depth of this passage and bring it into sharp focus.

Blessed; a study in Matthew 5

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.Matthew 5:5

If we were to expect anyone to inherit the earth, we would probably assume it was a forceful person, advancing their own desires and taking what they wanted. Jesus throws another curve ball and says that it is quite the opposite.

Blessed; a study in Matthew 5

Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted.Matthew 5:4

When many people read this passage, they are unsure as to what they should walk away with. In our culture, most pain is to be avoided. And if you are experiencing pain or discomfort, people do not generally consider you fortunate.

Godly grief is a blessing

Paul writes a letter to the Corinthian church where he conveys the same point Jesus was trying to make here in Matthew.

Blessed; a study in Matthew 5

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Matthew 5:3

I have yet to meet anyone who desired to be poor. It is not something that most people strive their whole lives to become! When Jesus says that we are blessed to be poor in spirit, people scratch their heads. What did he really mean? Why should we be poor?

Central Youth Alliance

This Sunday is a huge day for churches and youth ministries in Mt.Pleasant. It is the result of years of prayer, building relationship, and the dedication of a group of individuals, who have a heart to reach our area for Christ, coming together with a common purpose.

Follow the Spirit

Every time I see somebody set a "ministry average" as a "ministry law", I cringe.

Same God, different gifts.

While it may be a great idea and it works, why must all ministries follow the same blueprint? There are several basics in the New Testament to show what a healthy ministry should do; beyond that, it comes down to much prayer and seeking God to see what your ministry should look like. I talked about this a bit in "Basics of (youth) ministry".

Parents: Listen to podcasts

Podcasts are an amazing resource. With them you can learn from some of the best teachers about finances, leadership, faith, and any other topic you want. While most people would use podcasts for personal edification or gaining information, one thing parents don't consider are their children when listening to podcasts.

ChurchTech Podcasts

Podcasting is an amazing tool in a church's toolbox! Done right, it is a powerful addition to any ministry! In this article I want to highlight a few ideas that can prevent restricting listeners in either choices or ability. For a church, the whole point of a podcast is to reach a wide demographic and make it easy to get the word out. Unfortunately some church podcasts are difficult to obtain.

Go into all the world, and share the good news with all creation; even those without iTunes!
